- As requested:-
-
- There are two RJ11 to BT431 cables sold in the UK. One
- works with modems and one gives NO DIAL TONE when used with
- modems. The commonest is the wrong one, and sold by most
- shops including Tandy (Intertan, Radio Shack) under
- part no's 279-7037, 279-7038, 279-7039, 270-7040.
- It's a replacement line cord and goes from
- some phones and fax machines to the telephone wall socket.
-
- The correct MODEM cable is wired RJ11 pin 3 to BT431 pin 2,
- and RJ11 pin 4 to BT431 pin 5. There being only two wires
- to the exchange on BT exchange lines. For some PABX's
- add RJ11 pin 5 to BT431 pin 4, and RJ11 pin 2 to BT431
- pin 3. This will carry through the PABX's earth RECALL
- function wire, and the BELL anti-tinkle wire.
-
- For the BT431 plug, pin 6 is next to the latch.
- For the RJ11 plug, looking end-on to the contacts end, with
- the latch on top, pins are 1 to 6, left to right.
-
- For the full PABX version use the above information. For simple
- 2 wire version, wire as below. Timed break recall seems more common
- than earth recall to get your second dial tone, to transfer calls,
- and other functions, and I don't think the anti-tinkle wire is
- used nowdays (now that we don't use pulse dialing and physical
- bells) so the two wire version should suit most applications.
-
- Note not all plugs have pins in all positions. For the
- two wire version it's the two middle pins of the RJ11, to
- the last but one position in from each side of the BT431 plug.
